Election Results: 07-08 SHC Officers

Mackenzie Wiggs, Chris Appleby, Mike Bradshaw, Jen Koops, Kayla Czmowski, Emily Martin, and Kyle Fabatz ponder the future at the SHC election.

We had a large turn-out for SHC elections once again this year, including a notable crowd of this year’s Deckerites who showed up to participate at the meeting. Although not as many Co-VPs were elected to office this year as last, we have an excellent mix of new and returning officers to lead SHC through another great year of service, social activities, and academics.

Although most participants and candidates at the meeting came with their own ideas about how they would take part in the event, the elections held a surprise for at least two of the students in attendance. Once elections got underway, the group realized that no one had been planning to run for the Public Relations position. Not wanting to leave the office vacant, two brave Honors students in the crowd—Jen Koops and Kayla Czmowski—volunteered for the job. Their on-the-spot candidacy announcements impressed everyone enough to elect both of them as Co-VPs to the position!

You can read introductions from all of the SHC officers for 2007-2008 below to find out more about them.

President

Mike Bradshaw

My name is Michael Bradshaw. Thank you for re-electing me as President of the Student Honors Council (SHC). I have a number of ideas and activities for improving the Honors Program for the 2007-2008 school year. Of these ideas, the most salient is the possible creation of a new SHC office, the Vice President of Undergraduate Research.  Also, I will again be Co-Event Chair for Relay for Life at UNC, and I am looking for anyone who would like to help with that. Please let me know if you are interested in participating or volunteering, and you can also read about the last Relay for Life at UNC in the Honors, Scholars, and Leadership section.

Kyle Fabatz

Hey there! My name is Kyle Fabatz, and I’m excited to serve as Co-Vice President of Finance with Chris Appleby this year. I’m a junior music education major; I have a passion for music and a heart for high school students, so I want to direct a high school band after college. I love to be outside, and some of my favorite activities are skiing, biking, and hiking. I would also consider myself a “Chipotle connoisseur” and enjoy hanging out with friends at our new Greeley Chipotle. (I almost cried when I heard it was opening...almost). I’m looking forward to working with you this year!

Director and Co-Vice Presidents of International Film Series

Angie Bartleson

Hello, fellow Honors students and film lovers! My name is Angie Bartleson, a senior psychology major and sociology minor, and the latest director of the International Film Series. I am honored to follow Katie Goulet as Director and hope to continue the IFS tradition of story-telling through film. As a previous volunteer and Co-Vice President of the series, I aim to further collaborate with other organizations on campus and connect with the staff, students, and community members that create the core of IFS. Any suggestions, ideas, or volunteer support that you can offer are extremely welcome. I hope you include the International Film Series as a part of your college experience and join us in Lindou Auditorium for some artistic, mysterious, humorous, insightful, and informative films!

Melissa Jeffries

My name is Melissa Jeffries, a sophomore pre-nursing major and Co-Vice President of the International Film Series (IFS). This year, I hope to expand IFS by gaining the support and participation of other organizations on campus. I have been an IFS volunteer for the past year and have developed a passion for it. The knowledge about different countries that I gain from the films fascinates me. I hope you find a similar enthusiasm while watching the IFS movies.

Alicia Smith

Hello, my name is Alicia Smith. I am a sophomore psychology major and Co-Vice President of the International Film Series for the upcoming school year. I believe awareness of other countries and cultures is very important, and IFS provides an opportunity to increase this awareness. Vice President of Community Service

Lindy Anderson

Hello! My name is Lindy Anderson, and I will be serving as the Vice President of Community Service this year. I am a business major with a double emphasis in marketing and finance. Community service has always been a huge part of my life, and I am very excited for this year. I served as the Community Service Coordinator in the 2006-2007 school year for the President’s Leadership Program and realized that we need to get all of the Honors, Scholars, and Leadership (HSL) students working together. My goal is to establish yearly projects that the entire HSL community can participate in together, such as Relay for Life and Habitat for Humanity. I hope you’re all pumped for a year of service!
