The School of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of Northern Colorado coordinates the programs of Africana Studies, Hispanic Studies (Spanish, Mexican-American Studies, Bilingual Education, ESL), and Modern Languages (French, German, Japanese, Chinese). Our programs serve the needs of 200 undergraduate majors, 250 undergraduate minors, 300 students earning an ESL or bilingual education endorsements, 43 graduate students enrolled in the master’s program in Foreign Languages: Spanish Teaching, and numerous students enrolled in general education courses focused on languages, international studies, and multicultural studies.
Faculty in the School of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies are deeply committed to fostering relationships to the surrounding community and schools and to providing language and cultural immersion experiences here and abroad. Information about study abroad programs is available on the Web sites of the individual program areas.
The school also administers the Center for Language Arts Education and the Colorado Poets Center.
